I am Dr. Kris Nystrom, Ed.D., and I bring over 39 years of rich experience as an educator and administrator to Critical Pedagogy Consulting. My journey in education has taken me from secondary and university settings as a teacher and administrator of English, literacy programs, and pre-service teacher education to directing English and Literacy Departments in both small and large school districts.
Throughout my career, my research has been dedicated to advancing equity in literacy, pedagogy, and curriculum development. I have always believed in the power of collective efforts among students, faculty, and home adults to improve the efficacy of our educational programs.
As a college instructor, I have taught English, art history, and humanities, and I served as lead instructor for pre-service English teacher methods at the Connecticut State Department of Education Office of Higher Education. These experiences helped me develop strategies for helping adults and professionals access their greatest strengths while acquiring new and adaptive skills.
My mission as a teacher and researcher has always revolved around empowering traditionally marginalized students and nurturing their voices. I have a strong track record of creating highly effective literacy programs, guiding faculty through curriculum changes to meet the evolving needs of students, and fostering the growth of early- and mid-career teacher talent.
In addition to my educational roles, I offer expertise in assessing international education systems for compliance with accrediting bodies through vetted best-practice research strategies.
After dedicating nearly four decades to the field of education, I am excited to extend my expertise in a consultancy model. Critical Pedagogy Consulting is my way of sharing the knowledge and insights I have gained over the years with educational institutions, districts, and organizations. Whether in public schools or higher education, I am committed to advancing equitable and effective pedagogy.
